Nature and extent of collection

 

70 pieces. Historic coin collection acquired by Dorothy Johnston of Hallhouse Farm, Appledore, donated to the National Trust. Our mission is to care for the coins, increase knowledge and facilitate access to this collection.

British coins: 29, including some coins of Henry VIII, Elizabeth I, Philip and Mary and Richard II

British tokens: A small collection, including 3 Appledore halfpennies, hop tokens and mill tokens

European coins: 14

Modern coins: 7, including some coins of George III and some Victorian farthings

Medals (commemorative or military): 5, including a uniface medal of Napoleon III, 2 coronation medals and a silver jubilee medal of George V

Paranumismatica: 13, including jettons, coin weights and a number of Boer War-related badges pinned to a length of red, white and blue striped ribbon

Specific strengths: British medieval coins.
