London boasts a range of museums and collections which incorporate money and medals. Some of the larger collections include the national collection of over 1 million coins and medals held at the British Museum; the rich archaeological material  from the capital held at the Museum of London; the National Maritime Museum has a collection of around 5000 coins and medals with a maritime or Greenwich association.

Hall Place, Bexley

Bexley Heritage Trust is responsible for the care and management of Bexley’s extensive museum collection, comprising over 50,000 objects. The collection is diverse ranging from natural history, geology and archaeology to costume, painting and furniture.

 

Old Speech Room Gallery, Harrow School

They say 'The Old Speech Room was built around 1820 as a space where boys could learn the art of public speaking. In 1976, it was converted into a gallery for the School's distinguished collection of antiquities and fine art.'

 

Wandsworth Museum

They say 'Wandsworth Museum tells the story of Wandsworth and its surrounds and celebrates the Borough’s heritage. It aims to be an exciting, successful, independent and sustainable Museum with education as the focus for its activities.'

Bank of England Museum

Items from the Bank's collections are displayed in its Museum where they are used to illustrate the history of the institution and its role today at the centre of the UK economy.

 

British Museum

The British Museum was founded as a national institution with an international frame of reference. Two and a half centuries later it is perhaps the only single collection in the world where the history of mankind can be told through material culture over a span of two million years.

 

Imperial War Museum

They say 'In 1917 the Cabinet decided that a National War Museum should be set up to collect and display material relating to the Great War, which was still being fought. The interest taken by the Dominion governments led to the museum being given the title of Imperial War Museum.'

 

The Library and Museum of Freemasonry

They say 'The Museum contains an extensive collection of objects with Masonic decoration including pottery and porcelain, glassware, silver, furniture and clocks, jewels and regalia.'

 

London Transport Museum

The Magic Circle Museum

Museum of the Order of St John

Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology

They say 'The Petrie Museum houses an estimated 80,000 objects, making it one of the greatest collections of Egyptian and Sudanese archaeology in the world. It illustrates life in the Nile Valley from prehistory through the time of the pharaohs, the Ptolemaic, Roman and Coptic periods to the Islamic period. '

 

Science Museum

Victoria and Albert Museum
